While any setting differs from the reference, a bubble on the top-left corner of the top bar's System button shows how many do: amber when one of the classic traps is among them, blue otherwise; while you keep a normal it stays, at 0 when nothing differs from it. A tap on it opens the Changes sheet.
One line a setting: where it is (Channels, Trigger, Acquire ...), its name as the sheets call it, the value now and the reference's, and Put back. The classic traps come first, marked with an amber !: a band limit, a probe ratio, an inverted channel, an offset, AC or GND coupling, 50 Ohm, average, peak or high-res acquisition, a holdoff, the trigger's coupling and noise reject, the Normal sweep, roll, persistence, a bias, a deskew, a high-pass and a generator output on. Put all back sets every one back; eight lines a page.
Compare with the scope's defaults, or Save as normal: the settings as they are become the state compared with, kept when the scope is switched off. A change from the normal then shows alone.
The comparison covers the engine's whole state: every channel, the time base, every trigger type, the acquisition, the display, the measurements, math, cursors, the decoders, the generator, the LA and the analyses, so a setting a new feature adds is compared the day it lands. Left out on purpose: the run state, the volts per division, time base and trigger level the cards show, the scope's own preferences (language, sounds, power-on, screen saver, the quick bar), cursor and mark positions and results; a channel's settings count while it is on, a trigger type's while it is chosen, a decoder's or a math's while it is on. It runs when a setting changes, never per frame.
:NOVAos:SETTings:CHANged? answers how many settings differ, :NOVAos:SETTings:LIST? lists them a tab-separated line each (key, area, trap, value now, reference's value), :NOVAos:SETTings:NORMal:SAVE saves the normal and :NOVAos:SETTings:REFerence DEFault|NORMal chooses the reference.
The comparison, the bubble, the Changes sheet with Put back and Save as normal, and the :NOVAos:SETTings forms.
It reaches the scopes with the next release.
Save your usual set-up as normal, then tell us whether the list catches what you forget and whether a setting is missing from it.
A view of every setting that is not at its default, or not as a state the user saved as "normal", so a forgotten 20 MHz band limit, a 10x probe setting on a 1x probe, an inverted channel, an offset, a holdoff or an acquisition left on average is seen before it spoils a measurement. tautech pointed at CJSouthern's PC control panel for the Siglent SDS800X HD (msg6378037 in NovaOS's thread), which flags each setting that differs.
You might also be inspired by some work CJ has done on a remote interface for the SDS824X HD we sold him.
Try it and tell us what to change: reply on NovaOS's thread on the EEVblog forum.
