Mouse point-to-point, wheel zoom and decoder thresholds that stay put
Asked by rteodor on the EEVblog forum, 9 October 2026. Thank you: here is what NovaOS does now.
done, in the next release · MHO900, DHO800/900 · the videos are recordings of NovaOS's own screen, driven with a mouse
What was asked
Memorizing thresholds in the decoders (I2C and SPI) ... still sometimes I see a threshold just resetting itself while changing the channels.
Decoder thresholds must stay where they were set.
What about just using the mouse scroll wheel to change the value when the mouse is over a threshold field?
The mouse wheel over a threshold field changes it.
Right click somewhere on a waveform, select "Measure start point", then go to some other place, right click there too and select "Measure end point". The measurement point could/should snap to the closest waveform.
Point-to-point time and voltage from two right clicks, snapping to the nearest trace, vertically or horizontally.
Maybe just mouse scroll over a waveform to change the timebase? Like a zoom in/out function of the scroll wheel?
The mouse wheel over the waveform zooms the time base.
What NovaOS does now
Decoder thresholds stay where you set them
Each decoder line (I2C's SCL and SDA, SPI's clock, MOSI, MISO and chip select, every bus type on each of the four decoders) keeps its own threshold. Changing a line's channel no longer touches it, and it now survives a power cycle: the scope's settings memory has room for one threshold per channel, so NovaOS keeps every line's own value beside it and puts it back at start (unless the stock firmware changed it in between, then that wins).
The mouse wheel turns the field under the pointer
Over a field of the Decode sheet the wheel steps that field: a threshold a tenth of its channel's division a click, a channel or a list its next entry. Over a channel card it is that channel's scale, over the trigger card the level.
Shown in the video above.
Point to point with two right clicks
Right-click the waveform and choose Measure start point; right-click another place and choose Measure end point. Both points snap to the nearest trace, vertically (its value at that time) or horizontally (where it crosses the pointer's level), chosen in the menu or on the readout. The readout gives both points, delta T with 1/delta T, and delta V with delta V/delta T.
The wheel zooms the time base where you point
Over the waveform the wheel steps the time base about the pointer, as a map zooms: the moment under the pointer stays under it. Zoomed in, it sizes the zoom window the same way.
