After a zone is drawn it shows a square at each corner and a dot in the middle of each edge. Drag a corner to move it; drag an edge's dot to add a corner there and pull it out; press and hold a corner, or tap it twice, to remove it. A zone has 3 to 16 corners, convex or not. The handles take a touch within a fingertip of them, and a mouse drags them the same way.
The Zones page's Outline row offers Box, Triangular, Trapezoid and Hexagon, each fitted to the box the zone spans, and Custom, the corners as they were dragged. Draw then spans the chosen shape across the drag, a custom outline stretched to it.
The engine judges every triggered acquisition against the polygon itself: the trace meets the zone when one of its segments crosses or touches an edge or a corner, or when it lies inside the outline. A box costs what it did, and a polygon starts with its bounding box, so a trace that misses that is rejected at the box's price.
:NOVAos:ZONE<n>:SHAPe BOX|TRIangle|TRAPezoid|HEXagon|CUSTom and :NOVAos:ZONE<n>:VERTices x1,y1,x2,y2,... set and read the outline in the source's units; LEFT, RIGHt, TOP and BOTTom still set a box, and on another outline move that edge of its bounding box. The screen and SCPI share one setting, kept over a power cycle.
Polygon zones of 3 to 16 corners in the source's units, the presets, the handles on the plot, the Outline row, the SCPI forms and the judgement in the engine on channels, logic lines, math slots, an FFT and XY.
A trace inside an outline, across an edge, through a corner, in a concave outline's notch and across a logic line's riser, on the time plot and on XY, on both families; the drags that add, move and remove corners by touch and by mouse; the box forms as before.
It reaches the scopes with the next release.
Try an outline around the part of your signal you want to catch, and tell us whether the handles are easy to work with a finger.
A zone trigger area that is not only a box: drag the sides to add corners and reshape it into any polygon, as Tek's visual trigger does, with ready-made shapes besides.
Maybe you can have a custom mode for those boxes where you click and drag on the sides to add vertices and reshape them to arbitrary polygons (as you can have on Tek and other scopes).
Try it and tell us what to change: reply on NovaOS's thread on the EEVblog forum.
