How it works

Math on math

Every math channel can take any other math channel as a source, above or below it: the operators (A+B, A-B, AxB, A/B, d/dt, integral, aX+b), the filters and the FFT, and formulas such as MATH1*2, lpf(MATH2, 1MHz) - CH1 or fm(MATH3). The channels are computed in the order they read each other, each once a frame. A loop (MATH1 = MATH2 while MATH2 = MATH1, or a channel reading itself) is refused where it is set, with the loop in the message. Over SCPI: :MATH<n>:SOURce1 MATHm, :MATH<n>:FFT:SOURce MATHm and :NOVAos:MATH<n>:EXPRession.

Eight math channels

M1 to M8 on the math sheet, every channel that is on drawn in its own colour on its own scale with its marker. M5 to M8 are measured, exported and used as sources like M1 to M4; over SCPI they take every math command as :NOVAos:MATH5:... to :NOVAos:MATH8:..., and the stock commands keep MATH1 to MATH4.

Saved with the setup

A saved setup file carries every math channel's settings and formula, so a recalled setup brings math on math back as it was. A scope running Rigol's firmware reads the same file and keeps its own math.

Where it stands

  1. DoneBuilt

Math on math through operators, filters, the FFT and formulas, eight math channels, the SCPI commands and setup files, with tests on both families' command sets.

  2. NextOn our DHO924S and MHO934

MATH2 = MATH1 x 2 over MATH1 = CH1 - CH2 checked against the raw samples, and the cost of eight channels measured, on a release installed on both scopes.

What rpro asked for

A math channel that takes another math channel as its source, formulas over them, and more math channels than the four the scope has.

Adding math-on-math channels with formula/script editing capabilities, increasing the number of channels, etc.
