Bode plot with an external generator

A Bode plot from any generator, so scopes without one of their own get Bode too.

What it does

Three ways. Follow: set your generator to sweep by itself, and the scope catches the sweep's start, reads the frequency in every capture and places each point by it. LAN: the scope steps a Rigol DG, Siglent SDG or Keysight 33500 over the network, point by point. Script: at each point the scope waits for your script to set any generator and say Ready.

So the DHO800 and the DHO914 and DHO924, which have no generator, get a Bode plot too. On our MHO934, following its own generator's 1 kHz to 1 MHz sweep, all 40 points came within 0.09 dB and 0.12 degree of flat.

How to use it

  1. In the Bode window, Gen offers Follow, LAN or Script.
  2. Follow: match the window's Start, Stop, scale and sweep time to the generator's sweep, and Run.
  3. LAN: pick the maker and type the generator's address.
  4. Script: Run, and let your script answer :NOVAos:BODeplot:SCRipt:STATe? at each point.

On Rigol's firmware

DHO800: not offered · DHO900: not offered · MHO900: not offered.

Where it stands

Built, and run on our MHO934 in Follow and Script modes (the videos). Running all three from the scopes' screens, and a network generator on our bench, are next.
